Vishnu Manchu’s mythological epic Kannappa is witnessing a dip in momentum at the box office after a strong start. Despite an impressive opening and a star-studded cast, the film’s weekday collections have seen a noticeable decline. According to early trade estimates, the film has earned ₹27.45 crore (net) across all languages in India over its first five days.

A Promising Start, Then a Slide

Released on June 28, Kannappa opened to a robust ₹9.35 crore on Day 1, primarily driven by audiences in Telugu-speaking regions. However, collections began to slide over the weekend, falling to ₹7.15 crore on Saturday and ₹6.9 crore on Sunday.

The drop became more evident as the week progressed. Monday’s earnings fell sharply to ₹2.3 crore, followed by an even lower ₹1.75 crore on Tuesday, according to Sacnilk.

Occupancy Trends

The film’s overall occupancy on Tuesday stood at 14.42% in Telugu markets. Interestingly, the Hindi version experienced a slight resurgence, particularly during night shows, recording a 23.41% occupancy and a daily average of 14.12%.

Star Cast and Cameos

Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, Kannappa features an ensemble cast that includes Vishnu Manchu, Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, and Madhoo. The film also boasts high-profile cameo appearances by major stars like Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Mohanlal, and Kajal Aggarwal—whose appearances have generated considerable buzz.

Visual Appeal and Critical Response

Critics have praised the film for its visual spectacle. According to the Etimes review, Kannappa “scores high on visual and musical impact.” Cinematographer Sheldon Chau’s work has been lauded for capturing both forest landscapes and divine sequences with grandeur. However, some VFX elements were noted to fall short of the film’s ambitious scale.

Looking Ahead

While Kannappa is currently experiencing a mid-week slowdown, the lack of strong new releases in the coming days could allow it to retain screen space and possibly stabilize collections. With its unique blend of mythological storytelling, star power, and visual appeal, the film still has potential to connect with audiences over its theatrical run.
